Outdoor learning can be fun!

Outdoor Learning January 2015 - BODMAS
  • We found lots of fun and excitement, despite it being cold, when we carried out a treasure hunt using and applying our skills of BODMAS to solve problems.
We needed to understand BODMAS to work out the answer and then go and find the answer somewhere else in the school environment.

Working with a partner helped to organise our ideas and make sure we got the right answer. We questioned each other  and referred back to our understanding of the order of operations
Brackets, Orders, Division, Multiplication, Addition and Subtraction.

The treasure hunt was everywhere. Because we were on the move we didn't feel the cold.
    It was such fun!

Introduction

Welcome to Year 5/6

with

Mrs Henderson, Mrs Preston and Mrs Price

We hope you enjoy looking at the learning we have been doing and celebrating some of our achievements.

Since September 2014  we have been busy working towards different projects

Autumn 1 :
  • 'Comparing a place in South America with our own environment'                                We chose to use the Amazon Rainforest as an area to compare with Saddleworth. Please see our page containing our Amazon Adventure Maths investigation where we had to create our own half term holiday adventure in the Amazon.
Autumn 2 leading into Spring 1

  • 'Identifying and aspect of leisure in Tudor Times                                                             '  We focused on the development of Theatre and entertainment in Tudor/Elizabethan times with a focus upon Shakespeare and Macbeth.                                                        Please  see our page where we  share our group work: creating a stage upon which to make puppets  which performed our own playscripts of our chosen scenes from Macbeth.
  • Macbeth final Theatre displays:
    • We videoed our  final productions; these are some photos of each groups theatres and models we made. We felt so proud and had learnt so much about Set design, entrances and exits for characters, scenery, lighting and characterisation of puppets.

Spring 1 leading into Spring 2:

  • 'Exploring Exloration in Tudor times and how this contributed to major turning points in British History including  how the monarchs supported exploration'                                Please  enjoy seeing our ongoing journeyThis is a self generated project encouraging individuals to independently research and present information about their chosen explorer identifying the impact  each had upon our world today.
